Fit Notes (Previously Sick Notes)

You do not require any form of certification during the first 4 days of sickness. If you take off up to 7 days you must fill in a self-certification note.  Anything over 7 days, means you will need a Doctor’s Fit Note and you will need to make an appointment with a Doctor.  Once a Fit Note has been issued and you require any further Notes, the Doctor will require 4 days’ notice.  The Statutory Sick Pay Regulations state that employers are required to accept self-certification notes for the first 7 days of illness and employers must comply with these regulations.

Private Fit Note

Some employers or insurance schemes may ask you to provide a Fit Note.  There will be a fee payable if you require a private note for the first 7 days of your illness.  Reception can advise you of the fee payable.
